  • Darren McKinney, American Tort Reform Association, Washington, D.C.

John Edwards' principal strength as a personal injury lawyer was his ability to charm and sway -- some might say mislead -- jurors. But that bloom is now off the rose since many of those comprising contemporary jury pools will have clear memories of his cheating on a loyal and dying wife, lying blatantly and repeatedly about fathering a child out of wedlock, and engaging in very questionable if not technically criminal campaign finance schemes. So the new Edwards law firm better hope daughter Cate develops quickly into an effective litigator and persuader of juries, because no one's likely to buy her father's BS ever again.
